💢 Ukrainian soldiers and members of Azov from the Azovstal plant in the process of surrendering this afternoon.

Recall that a closed session of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation is scheduled for May 26, at which the request of the Prosecutor General's Office to recognize Azov as a terrorist organization will be considered.

Earlier today, Azov commander Andriy Biletsky made a statement on the situation in Mariupol:

“I thank everyone who does everything to save the soldiers, everyone who gave publicity to the events at Azovstal. But now I urge you to refrain from commenting and evaluating what is happening there ... The only thing that each of you must do today is not to harm the salvation of our guys."

Biletsky like Zelensky has refrained from terming today's transfer in to custody a "surrender".

🇺🇦 Ukrainian troops have been mining territories in Donbas with anti-personnel mines prohibited by the Geneva Convention while retreating

Russian sappers have shown what the banned mines left behind by Ukrainian militants look like.

The mines in question are blast mines, PMN-2 models (Ukraine has ratified the convention on the prohibition of such mines back in 2005).

"They are laid in a chaotic manner and are found in the most unexpected places", says the expert.

Mines are being found even where children walk! 🤬

💢 The EU is making the step from a Trade Bloc to a Defense Alliance, as yours truly has said for ages.

We may even view Borrell in a different light, much more of an act or a stunt with his hawkishness towards Russia.

This will change the characteristics of the EU and international relations of others with the EU.

The only way the US will use the least efforts against creating an EU army (and a vast limitation on NATO) is if the EU escalates apparent hostilities with Russia.

Bodies of Russian soldiers line the hospital after Azov takes control.

In a stunning turn of events, about 50 Azov fighters popped up from their hospital beds and overpowered the Russian garrison at the hospital.

They are now organising their extraction to Turkey. It appears this was the brilliant Zelensky plan all along.

Ok just kidding. These soldiers from 107th regiment of the Donetsk army (former Ukraine) are taking their sleep shift on the floor in the Novo-Azovsk Hospital in Donetsk (former Ukraine). The Azov guys are also at this hospital being treated for injuries, and are detained under several possible categories.

1. Russia continues to make slow and steady progress in Donbas, the primary area of Russia’s focus;

3. Ukrainian “offensive” northeast of Kharkov appears to have been a costly photo-op and little more;
4. Ukrainian militants hiding in the Azovstal industrial complex begin to surrender dealing a mostly political blow to Ukraine;
5. Ukrainian militants had long since been out of the fight (since mid to late-April);
6. Pentagon claims most M777 howitzers are already on the front in Kharkov and Donbas;
7. US M777s have yet to make any discernible difference on the battlefield;
8. Pentagon admits Russia still has the majority of its combat power prepared against Ukraine available to it;

💢 The Ukrainian complains that they have been covered by Russian artillery for three days, and there is no support from their command.

This is apparently a fairly common complaint for soldiers though.

💢 On May 18, Ukrainian President Zelensky commented on the surrender of the Azov hold-outs.

He lied that the surrender is a humanitarian mission overseen by the Ukrainain military and intelligence officers.

In turn, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, accused Zelensky of lying.

“To give the exit of people, which Russia has been offering for several weeks, for its humanitarian operation is to show the whole world how they have learned to lie over the past many years under the leadership of primarily American and NATO specialists in general,” the representative of the Foreign Ministry said in her interview on May 18.

Zakharova stressed that Russia offered to carry out the operation to withdraw the Azov militants from the territory of Azovstal in the same format since April and announced humanitarian corridors on a daily basis.
