Russian central bank announced that it will put the ruble on a gold standard. The bank pegged 1 gram of gold to 5,000 rubles. Now that means, one troy ounce of gold or 32 grams of Gold would now cost 160000 rubles in Russia. At the current exchange rate, 32 grams of gold would cost roughly $1,600 in Russia.
In the US, the same quantity of gold would cost you $1,928. That means Russia has effectively ratcheted up its currency’s value against the dollar by pegging it to gold. If, 1 gram of gold is bound to 5000 rubles, then according to Western standards, the ruble must be valued at 70-75 units against 1 dollar. - TFIG

Russian Union of Grain Exporters has asked the Bank of Russia to investigate the possibility of enabling foreign purchasers of Russian grain to make payments on export contracts in rubles, according to a letter written by the Union (its copy has been obtained by TASS).
"We are asking to find the possibility of ensuring liquidity in rubles for foreign banks serving purchasers of grain. Among the largest purchasers are Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabi, other African and Middle Eastern countries, as well as a number of Asian countries - Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh," the document said.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed a decree that demands ‘unfriendly countries’ must pay for Russian gas in rubles.

The new law dictates that ‘unfriendly countries’ must open accounts in Russian banks and will come into force on April 1.

Current gas supply contracts will be stopped if buyers from ‘unfriendly countries’ do not meet new payment terms.

The RF Central Bank pegged 1 gram of gold to 5000 rubles (about $50 USD).

From March 31, oil and gas can only be purchased in rubles. Meaning, it is pegged to gold, using paper rubles as a proxy.

Europe will need to either buy rubles in gold, or they will have to buy directly in gold. Which means, there will be a lot more demand for rubles.

Currently, the forex rate for rubles to dollars is about 100:1. But with 5000 rubles now equaling 1 gram of gold, and oil being priced directly in gold - there will be a price disruption in terms of how much gold a dollar can actually buy.

Countries holding dollar debt notes will see less use for them & want to dump them, in order to get something which holds value better. This will have a deflationary effect on rubles.

Russia will be able to re-peg the ruble to gold at whatever rate down the line - 5000 today, tomorrow 500.

The excess dollars being dumped are about to cause hyperinflation....
