💢MAJOR - Japan is not going to withdraw from the joint Russian-Japanese Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project, as it is interested in continuing energy purchases within its framework, said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

This is a significant change of tone from previous statements from the Japanese leadership, as they come to properly assess the futility of isolating Russia and the desirability of a commodities-driven currency system.

New global 'commodity-based' monetary order is coming - Credit Suisse

A new monetary order is looking more and more likely as a commodities crisis feeds into inflation, according to Credit Suisse, which sees the U.S. dollar as losing the battle.

"This crisis is not like anything we have seen since President Nixon took the U.S. dollar off gold in 1971 – the end of the era of commodity-based money," said former Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department official and now Credit Suisse investment strategist Zoltan Pozsar. "When this crisis (and war) is over, the U.S. dollar should be much weaker and, on the flip side, the renminbi much stronger, backed by a basket of commodities."

After the war in Ukraine, money will not be the same, said Pozsar describing the history of the Bretton Woods monetary order. The investment strategist is betting on commodities, including gold.

The current monetary regime began to "crumble" when the G7 countries seized Russia's foreign exchange reserves.

Now that means, one troy ounce of gold or 32 grams of Gold would now cost 160000 rubles in Russia. At the current exchange rate, 32 grams of gold would cost roughly $1,600 in Russia.
In the US, the same quantity of gold would cost you $1,928. That means Russia has effectively ratcheted up its currency’s value against the dollar by pegging it to gold. South Ossetia to prepare referendum for accession of the country into the Russian Federation within 5 weeks

Russian Union of Grain Exporters has asked the Bank of Russia to investigate the possibility of enabling foreign purchasers of Russian grain to make payments on export contracts in rubles, according to a letter written by the Union (its copy has been obtained by TASS).
"We are asking to find the possibility of ensuring liquidity in rubles for foreign banks serving purchasers of grain. Among the largest purchasers are Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabi, other African and Middle Eastern countries, as well as a number of Asian countries - Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh," the document said.
