Denmark apologizes for 1950s child social experiment

Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen has apologized face-to-face to six living victims of an “inhuman, unreasonable and heartless” experiment which took Greenland children aged 4-9 years old to be integrated into Danish society.

The children’s parents originally agreed to the scheme, allegedly without fully understanding its scope, but they never saw their children again after they were adopted in Denmark or sent to orphanages.

The intention had apparently been for them to return and infiltrate the largely Inuit population as a Danish elite. Frederisken had written an apology in December 2020, but this was her first in person.
