IRAQ’S NEW GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY BEGINS

Iraq has entered a new governing chapter.

Prime Minister Mr. Ali Falah Al-Zaidi has officially assumed his duties as head of government and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, following the formal handover ceremony with former Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani at the Government Palace in Baghdad.

The symbolism matters. The national anthem, the honor guard representing Iraq’s armed forces, and the artillery salute all marked more than a ceremony — they marked the constitutional transfer of executive authority and the beginning of a new political cycle.

In his first address to the Iraqi people, Al-Zaidi placed the emphasis exactly where Iraq needs it most: national partnership, economic reform, protection of public funds, anti-corruption, youth employment, stronger services, healthcare, education, infrastructure, sovereignty, and balanced regional and international relations.

His message was clear: the next phase cannot be built on slogans. It must be built on institutions, law, justice, and measurable delivery.

The most important economic signal was his pledge to launch a comprehensive financial and economic reform program aimed at building a diversified, sustainable national economy — one that does not remain dependent on a single resource. That means industry, agriculture, tourism, investment, private sector growth, and Iraqi talent must now move from talking points into execution.

This is where the Central Bank, fiscal discipline, banking reform, anti-corruption controls, and dollar-access modernization become central. A stronger state requires a stronger financial system. A stronger dinar requires confidence, stability, transparency, and productive growth — not speculation.

Al-Zaidi also presided over the first regular meeting of the Council of Ministers, signaling that the government is moving immediately from ceremony to administration.

Iraq’s opportunity now is discipline.

If this government can turn partnership into policy, reform into implementation, and stability into investor confidence, then this moment may be remembered as more than a transfer of power.

It may be remembered as the opening step toward a more institutional, sovereign, and economically resilient Iraq.
