Backbiting is a major sin.
Allaah says:
Al-Hujurat 49:12
And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allaah
It was narrated that Anas ibn Malik Ψ±ΨΆΩ Ψ§ΩΩΩ ΨΉΩΩ said: The Messenger of Allaah (ο·Ί) said: βWhen my Lord took me up into heaven, I passed by some people who had nails of copper with which they were scratching their faces and chests. I said: βWho are these, O Jibreel?β He said: βThese are the ones who used to eat the flesh of the people and impugn their honour.ββ
[Abu Dawood]
β’when you listen someone backbiting about others. For the sake of Allaah ask them to not do and remind them of the punishment of it.
When they start to tell you, leave that place & let them get a lesson for you..

πThe Prophet Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam explained the above Aayah and said::
βWhen the people of Paradise enter Paradise, Allaah will say, βDo you want anything more?β They will say, βHave You not brightened our faces, admitted us to Paradise and saved us from Hell?β Then the veil will be lifted and they will not have seen anything more dear to them than looking upon their Lord, may He be glorified and exalted. This is what is meant by βEVEN MORE.ββ Then he recited the Aayah from Surah Yunus β (Saheeh Muslim 266)
