The Ruling on Asking Allāh for His Bounty Upon Hearing a Rooster and Seeking Refuge Upon Hearing a Dog Bark
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—was asked:
Question:
"What is the ruling on asking Allāh for Paradise upon hearing the rooster, and is it an obligation or a recommendation?
Likewise, when seeking refuge upon hearing the barking of dogs, is that repeated every time we hear it, even if that is more than once at one time?"
Answer:
"As for when hearing the rooster or the crowing of the rooster, then the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
فما سمعنا الصارخ [1]
“So when we hear the crowing”
The intent by that is the rooster. So if one hears it, then it is necessary to ask Allāh for His bounty (فضل) [2]. This is considered recommended and not in the form of an obligation.
Likewise is seeking refuge from Shayṭān when hearing the barking of a dog. If the barking repeats continuously in one sitting, it is not necessary for him to say every time he hears the dog:
أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
'I seek refuge with Allāh from the accursed Shayṭān'
After some time, if another dog barks or that same dog barks again, then he seeks refuge with Allāh from the accursed Shayṭān. As for if it is continuous, then it is sufficient to seek refuge once. And in Allāh is aid sought."

Editors’ Footnotes:
[1] I was unable to find the specific wording, “فما سمعنا الصارخ,” in a ḥadīth. However, the ḥadīth itself is muttafaqun ʿalayh (agreed upon), meaning that it is narrated in both Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, with the wording: “إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صِيَاحَ الدِّيَكَةِ”. [Affirmed by the translator]
[2] E.g: O Allāh, I ask you from your bounty.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Attending Funerals Involving Innovations
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy upon him—said:
"As for the funeral that contains acts of innovations, if the deceased himself is an innovator, then I advise not to attend [his funeral], and if he is not an innovator while his family and relatives or one of the innovators just took control of his funeral, then there is no harm in attending..."
He—may Allāh have mercy upon him—also said:
"... If the janāzah is for a sunnī while his family is from the people of innovations, we advise that the person follows the janāzah of the sunnī and he should not participate with them in anything from their innovations..."
[Min Fiqh al-Imām al-Wādiʿī (1/493)]
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy upon him—said:
"... If a chaplain [i.e., a pastor] were to come [to the funeral] and utter words similar to the talqīn of the innovators (i.e., of them addressing the dead with certain words), if the person remains, then in shāʾ Allāh lā baʾs (i.e., it is okay) while disliking it with his heart.
The proof is the ḥadīth of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī—may Allāh be pleased with him—who said:
'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: "Whoever of you sees an evil, then let him change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then with his heart—and that is the weakest of faith."'
And if he were to walk away, then it is better, in shāʾ Allāh."
[Min Fiqh al-Imām al-Wādiʿī (1/498)]
Translators' Note:
Likewise, if a person were to attend a janāzah and an innovator there begins to speak or perform certain innovations, then the person can either remain and dislike it with his heart, and if he were to walk away, then that is better for him, in shāʾ Allāh. And Allāh knows best.
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy upon him—also said:
"As for following a janāzah that is accompanied with innovations, then as long as the deceased is a Muslim, it is appropriate to follow his janāzah. However, if you are able to criticize, then criticize; and if you aren't capable to criticize, then dislike it with your heart and do not participate with them in their innovations."

Taking ʿAqīdah from Shaykh al-Albānī but Fiqh al-Wāqiʿ (Understanding Contemporary Affairs) from Others: A Foul and Misguided Statement
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—was asked:
Question:
What do you say regarding those who say: “We take ʿaqīdah (creed) from Shaykh al-Albānī and other scholars, while we take fiqh al-wāqiʿ (understanding contemporary affairs) from others?”
Answer:
I say: This is a foul statement!
You have misled the people, caused confusion among the people, and kept the people ignorant.
Where is your success in understanding current affairs?
The reality is that the Gulf crisis exposed them when they launched an attack against those who issued the ruling permitting seeking assistance from a disbeliever.
We have mentioned the evidence elsewhere, such as the statement of the Prophet ﷺ:
“Indeed, Allāh supports this religion even through a wicked man.”
And the statement of the Prophet ﷺ in the ḥadīth of Dhū Mikhbar, as recorded in Sunan Abī Dāwūd:
“You will make a peace treaty with the Romans, and you and they will fight an enemy behind you; then they will betray you.”
The point is:
You have neither understood contemporary affairs nor acquired knowledge! But Allāh is the One to whom we complain.
You have remained like this, bewildered, and changed your positions every day, presenting the people with a different position each time.
Then, whenever you are defeated and it becomes clear that you have failed and were ignorant of the reality, you come with excuses.
And Allāh’s aid is sought.

It Is Considered Imitation!
Imām Muqbil—may Allah have mercy on him—was asked:
Question:
What is the ruling of using the Georgian calendar?
Answer:
It is considered imitation. And Ar-Rasūl ﷺ said:
“Whoever imitates a people then he is from them.”
So I advise with using the Hijrī calendar and the refuge of Allāh is sought, and the important (thing)—O brothers—they don’t want to abandon anything from the symbols of al-Islām except they (have) defaced it.

Ijābah al-Sāʾil: The Most Important Fatāwā of Imām Muqbil
Among the most widely circulated collections of fatāwā (verdicts) left behind by Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—is his comprehensive question-and-answer work:
Ijābah al-Sāʾil ʿalā Ahamm al-Masāʾil
Answering the Questioner on the Most Important Issues.
The primary aim of this work was to gather, transcribe, and verify the oral questions presented to Imām Muqbil during his public gatherings and Q&A sessions at Dār al-Ḥadīth in Dammāj. It comprises of 414 numbered, detailed questions and answers transcribed directly from his recorded lessons.
Its structure frames the entire scope of the student's journey, beginning with creed and ending with methodological advice:
Question 1: “What is the definition of Tawḥīd? And what are its divisions?”
Question 414: “What is your advice to the students of knowledge in these days?”
In his approach to answering the questioners, Imām Muqbil anchored his verdicts directly in the Qurʾān, authentic Sunnah, and the narrations of the early generations (al-Salaf). He purposely avoided blind adherence to schools of thought (taqlīd) or partisan affiliations (ḥizbiyyah).
He applied this rigorous standard consistently throughout the book, relying on meticulous ḥadīth criticism rather than following the prevalent opinions of partisan groups or madhāhib.
Reaffirming this lifelong aversion to blind following, his daughter stated that he said:
«وَأَنَا بِحَمْدِ اللّٰهِ مُنْذُ بَدَأْتُ الدِّرَاسَةَ أُبْغِضُ التَّقْلِيدَ»
“And I, by the praise and thanks of Allāh, ever since I began seeking knowledge, have hated blind following (taqlīd).” [1]
For students of knowledge and ordinary readers seeking to understand Imām Muqbil’s methodology in giving fatāwā, this work serves as an essential book—reflecting how he applied the strict principles of the Sunnah directly to real-world problems, societal challenges, and contemporary doubts without succumbing to partisanship and blind following.
May Allāh have abundant mercy upon Imām Muqbil and make this tremendous work heavy in his scale of good deeds.

May Allāh have abundant mercy upon Imām Muqbil and make this tremendous work heavy in his scale of good deeds.

The Sunnah and The Daʿwah Are Not for Sale!
Imām Muqbil—may Allah have mercy on him—said:
“The Salafī does not sell out the Sunnah, nor does he sell out the daʿwah, regardless of what he may be offered. It is better than wealth, better than lineage, and better than everything else.”

The Woman's Need for Knowledge
Shaykhah Umm ʿAbdillāh, the daughter of Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on them both—said:
"The need of the woman for beneficial knowledge is greater than her need for sleep, food, and drink.
For there is neither happiness nor balance in life without beneficial knowledge."

Why the Sphinx of Egypt Was Not Destroyed by the Early Generations
Shaykh Ḥusayn al-Ḥāṭibī—may Allāh preserve him—mentions that Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—stated regarding the Sphinx:
"It is a statue of a lion in Egypt from the time of Pharaoh. The issue regarding it is that generations passed over it, Egypt was conquered, and it was not destroyed despite the presence of the evidences for the prohibition of pictures and statues.
The response to this is the following:
That those who conquered Egypt were not the Senior Companions, like ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ and ʿUqbah ibn Nāfiʿ—may Allāh be pleased with them. So perhaps this ruling [on the prohibition of statues] was hidden from them.
Or perhaps they were preoccupied with [other] conquests.
Or perhaps the land in which the statue was in was uninhabited.
Or some of them said: this statue was buried in sand until Napoleon of the West uncovered it later on. If this is correct, it is the best answer."

When Does Someone Exit the Bounds of Ahlus-Sunnah
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—was asked:
Question:
When does a man exit the bounds of Ahlus-Sunnah?
Answer:
If most of his actions are in opposition to the Sunnah.
For example: he establishes mawlids [the birthdays of the Prophet ﷺ] and he calls upon other than Allāh--and that (calling upon other than Allāh) is an innovation that removes someone from the religion. Supplication to other than Allāh is an innovation that removes someone from the religion. He curses the Companions. The one who curses Abū Bakr and ʿUmar is a filthy Rāfiḍī, not from Ahlus-Sunnah.
If it occurs from him one innovation, or two, or three and he is a Sunnī, I hope it [the innovation] is overwhelmed by what is with him of virtue. And in Allāh is refuge sought.
What is important, O brothers, is he exits from the bounds of Ahlus-Sunnah if he opposes a foundation from the foundations of Ahlus-Sunnah. In Allāh is refuge sought.

DO NOT SCARE ME WITH THE FATWĀ OF SO-AND-SO!!
Imām Muqbil—may Allāh have mercy on him—said:
“The fatwā of the greatest person in my view, if it contradicts the evidence, has no value. And the fatwā of the least of you, if he has evidence, is upon my eyes and my head—so that you do not frighten me with the fatwā of so-and-so or so-and-so.”
