Toward Full Decentralization: Staking Phase 3 Is About To Go Live on Elrond

The Elrond network is live and open source, setting a remarkable standard in the performance that it brings to the blockchain space. The Elrond DeFi 2.0 module is also coming live soon and will feature a new set of financial microservices, capable of processing transactions at an internet-scale, and opening a new adoption space by making these microservices accessible by nations, institutions, banks, businesses, and individuals.

To strengthen the network and prepare it for this new phase, following a thoughtful conversation around the Phase 3 staking proposal, we are finally ready to take another step toward full decentralization of the Elrond network.

The changes that are coming are meant to open a new era of growth for Elrond, specifically increasing the token distribution and decentralization, strengthening the security of the network, and enabling sustainable business models around staking-as-a-service providers.

In short, by enabling more eGold to be staked, more people and validators will participate, more tokens will be locked, security will be improved by increasing the cost of potential attacks. A secure environment will give confidence to more businesses to start building on Elrond, increasing the demand for eGold, in a perpetual virtuous circle.

This is why we are excited to announce the imminent transition to Staking Phase 3!

Why:

🔹 We will use part of it for the Delegation Manager whitelisting process. Simply put, only whitelisted delegation domains will be able to use the web wallet deep-linking feature.

That's when a customer clicks your link to stake their EGLD with you:
• a web wallet login link appears
• the user logs in as they would normally in the Elrond Web Wallet
• a pre-populated stake transaction appears for the user
• the user confirms and therefore delegates their selected amount of EGLD with you

For security reasons (protection against phishing websites, scams, etc), we will only allow this feature on the Elrond Web Wallet for whitelisted domains.

🔹 The other part of the info we will use to populate our relevant databases, so we have a good overview, know how to get in touch, how to redirect support requests, etc.

🏛 Elrond Validators Town Hall Meeting

Hello Validators,

Staking Phase 3 is around the corner. People are excited. Clarifications are important.

Here are the most important ones:

🔸 When can providers deploy staking pools?

The Delegation Manager goes live, according to plan, at Epoch 239 (Friday March 26 ~14:30 UTC). Please wait for the successful epoch change before sending your transactions.

🔸 When can users stake via the Web Wallet & Maiar?

Friday March 26 ~16:30 UTC - tentatively. We need ~2 hours to whitelist your domains in the Web Wallet and Maiar. The Web Wallet will have a new release, which will translate in ~5-10 minutes downtime.

🔸 Should users delegate to SPs using custom transactions?

Absolutely not. Please do not take this risk on yourselves on behalf of the users. One small error might mean lost trust, or maybe even eGold. Stay safe.

🔸 Top-up & APR for staking pools

Configure your staking pools with caps that allow top-ups. Protect yourself against the risk of a small undelegation resulting in one of your validators being unstaked - build a buffer into your cap!

🔸 There is FOMO around “not enough staking” - exactly the opposite is being enabled.

The more EGLD delegated towards your pools, the more you earn. The more EGLD staked, the higher the security of the network. Economics are to be considered as well. Everything points to the fact that more EGLD staked is better for the ecosystem.

🔸 Top-up & APR for Elrond Nodes

Elrond nodes do not allow top-up. No new delegations should flow towards Elrond nodes.

🔸 What does it mean for a Staking Provider to be "Featured" in the Web Wallet?

All the official Elrond Partners will have this distinction. The wallet will however display, programmatically, all the successfully deployed delegation smart contracts.
