Weddings are getting bigger and more expensive. What are the reasons? Is it a positive or negative development?

More and more people are striving for perfect weddings. Although this may require a significant amount of money and many people to celebrate, they are not giving up on it. Personally, I believe it is just a waste of money and time.

On the one hand, weddings are meant to be celebrations full of joy and happiness. Without a sense of celebration, a wedding can feel like a funeral. Firstly, weddings play a pivotal role in creating memorable and cheerful experiences. The more luxurious a wedding is, the more interesting and majestic it becomes, lifting guests' moods and spirits. Secondly, weddings can significantly boost the economy. For example, when a wedding takes place, numerous products such as fruits, meals, and confectionery are needed to serve the guests, reflecting the hosts' wealth. In contrast, if food is not provided, guests may start gossiping about the hosts. However, I believe that these inessential items for weddings will soon become outdated.

On the other hand, there are more negatives to celebrating a luxurious wedding. One main argument is the increasing materialism. Nowadays, many people focus on the material aspects of weddings, such as decorations and clothes, which can lead to waste disposal and negatively impact the ecosystem. For instance, Jayalalitha Jayaram celebrated one of the biggest weddings globally, serving food and snacks to around 150,000 guests throughout India. This exemplifies how celebrating luxurious weddings is considered a waste of resources.

To sum up, although many individuals are aware of the negative aspects of big weddings, such as not being eco-friendly and wasting money, they continue to hold luxurious ceremonies. I believe this is a negative development due to these two factors.
