In many countries, some students live with their families while studying, but other students prefer to attend universities in other cities.

Do the advantages of living away from home outweigh the disadvantages?

Studying in different cities or even countries is not much more difficult now. In many parts of the world, a number of students are studying on campus while they are living with their parents and siblings through commuting between home and study, whereas others want to study in other cities. Although living with family is important while students are studying, I believe that the benefits of living independently are superior.

On the one hand, there are a few obvious disadvantages to studying far from home. The first one is that they might face financial burdens most of the time. To explain, living far from home while studying leads to higher expenses. Some students should pay not only their tuition fee, but they also need to spend money for transportation, rent and daily living costs. In contrast, if they live in their own home with family members, the costs of living would be lower. Another problem could be homesickness. It is true that numerous students can learn how to live far from their home, family or relatives during the academic years. However, this was quite a challenge initially without any doubt. Thus, living and studying away from home can be a dilemma for many students.

Nevertheless, there are a host of positive sides to living and studying in other cities. The main one is that many students can learn to live independently without any family support. Many teenagers before studying at university used to rely on their family support in terms of financial issues while they were living with parents. In contrast, if they live far from home, they may learn how to spend money wisely or appreciate their parents on time because of not living together for a certain time. Furthermore, some students prefer to study in another city or abroad due to the lack of facilities in their hometown. For example, if some students want to study and earn much more money, they strive to enter high-quality universities, such as Cambridge or Oxford, which are located in the UK and the USA, respectively. Therefore, many students prefer to take part in universities in other cities or abroad in order to acquire more knowledge and earn a lot of money.

To conclude, despite living far from having some disadvantages owing to feeling homesickness and coming across some financial problems, the benefits of studying abroad or in other cities are indispensable so that students get more knowledge and jobs which they want.
