The expression comes from old calendars, where important holidays and special occasions were printed in red letters instead of black ones.

Michael gave us a warm, lively and very engaging Thought of the Day, the kind of speech where the details matter.

So here is our little challenge for you:

listen to it once to feel the message, and then listen again to catch the small moments, ideas and clues.
The quiz questions will open tomorrow, Thursday at 10:00.

πŸ›£ Magic of Roads: The Most Memorable Journeys

Yesterday’s meeting at Moscow Free Speakers Club felt warm, inspiring, and full of the spirit of adventure.

There was also a beautiful connection with our previous meeting. Last time, we touched the world of J.R.R. Tolkien through Letters from Father Christmas. Yesterday, Tolkien appeared again through Bilbo, who left his cosy home and followed the road, the dwarves, and Gandalf.

Ruslan, our Toastmaster of the Day, led the meeting for the first time and did it with charm and inspiration. He connected fantasy heroes, real travellers, cycling trips, wild camping, digital detox, and the question of what kind of journey truly recharges us.

A special thank you to Ruslan for the postcards from Italy. πŸ’Œ Let them stay with us as a small surprise for the future and one day we will see whether our wishes came true as planned, or whether life chose another road for us.

We also enjoyed Polina’s educational speech about Monarch butterflies, tiny creatures that migrate across three countries and travel up to 4,500 km. More speeches like this, please: thoughtful, informative, and opening our eyes to the beauty of the world.

Another lovely highlight was the work of our Grammarian. Olga prepared a wonderful list of strong expressions from the meeting β€” a great way to notice good language and add it to our personal speaking toolbox.
We were happy to welcome two new guests - Ekaterina and Anton. We hope you felt the warmth of our club and will join us again.

May the spirit of adventure help us explore the world, see beyond our own walls, and keep finding stories worth telling.

🌐 See you at our next meeting - July 30!
