First up we have Lewis Charles Levin - a Jew. Levin had a hatred of Catholics and wanted to keep America Protestant and he incited the Nativist Riots of 1844 in Philadelphia, which led to the killing of over 20 Irish Americans, the burning of many of their homes and the destruction of three Catholic churches associated with their community.

Levin later founded the “Know-Nothing Party” in the mid 1850s in response to the large wave of Irish migrants who came over during the Famine (began 1845). It was mostly an Anti-Catholic Party, hating the Irish in particular but also German Catholics. Basically Jews and Prods not liking Catholics - not racial.

Interestingly, the Know Nothing Party, prioritizing a zealous disdain for Irish Catholic immigrants, reportedly "had nothing to say about Jews", according to historian Hasia Diner. In New York, the virulently anti-Catholic Know Nothings supported a Jewish candidate for governor. Funny that.

Did Noel Ignatiev ever write about 'How the Jew Became White?'
Second we have Thomas Nast - a German Protestant. He is the "Father of the American Cartoon", creator of the GOP elephant symbol & the modernized Santa Clause - also responsible for pretty much all the anti-Irish cartoons in the U.S during the 1860s onwards

Now, why did Nast dislike the Irish?

1) He was bullied by Irish kids when he was younger
2) He thought the Irish were mean to black people
3) He saw the Irish lynch black people during the 1863 New York Draft Riots and burn a Coloured Orphan Asylum to the ground

This experience led him to see the Irish as “brutish thugs” and symbols of “mob violence”. This is why he was anti-Irish and is the basis for nearly all of those anti-Irish cartoons you see. He was also Pro-Chinese Immigration - to which Irishman Denis Kearney & all Irish migrants campaigned against. If you see 4th image, his cartoon is implying the Irish are being mean/racist to the Chinese immigrants. He also opposed racial segregation, supported American Indians and was an abolitionist.

William Lane is one of the most eloquent proponents of Australian nationalism. One of the earliest proponents of racial struggle and race war. He campaigned against the yellow peril and wanted to ensure Aaustalia became a white working mans paradise.

Immigration restriction of Asians was his main concern however he welcome immigration from other European countries.

Verity Burgman is the author of this text. She was my lecturer and Melbourne University for a class I had on politics. She gave a bad mark on my essays which I challenged via the coordinator and got them bumped up. She was followed by ASIO in her youth. A hippie activist in her day.

Cullas Adore: The Australian Pioneers [1893]

“Honor those men of old,
Honor the Pioneers.
Men whose hearts were brave and bold,
Undaunted by trials or fears.
Men, who dangers braved, unknown;
In their search for a new home
Landed here, and so become
Australian Pioneers.
It’s years since they saw the land —
The Australian Pioneers —
That girts the shores of the southern strand; Where the sun warm and clear
Smiled on sunny valleys deep;
And shone on mountains, wild and steep;
Where mountain torrent and rippling creek
Welcomed the Pioneers.
Well can this nation say
Honor the Pioneers,
Builders of a nation, they —
Founders of a sphere
That stands before the world, arrayed,
Its wealth and commerce displayed;
Proudly a nation they have made,
Honor the Pioneers.
Australia’s sons, a coming race,
And sons of the Pioneers;
Bravely each will take his place,
To defend our country dear.
For proud of our island home are we;
Proud of its people, brave and free;
Proud of our homes, fair to see;
And proud of our Pioneers.
Oh, Saviour Christ, we crave Thee bless
Our Australian Pioneers,
And grant them peace and happiness
In their reclining aged years.
For Thine is the power to take or save;
Thine is the mercy for which we crave;
Thou art the hope beyond the grave,
Of the Australian Pioneers.
