THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST

The word Passion comes from the Latin word for suffering. "The Passion of the Christ" is the story of Jesus Christ's arrest, trial, & crucifixion. The crucifixion of Jesus is accepted by many scholars as a historical event & is recorded in the writings of Paul, the Gospels, Josephus, & Cornelius Tacitus (greatest historian of ancient Rome), though scholars differ about the historical accuracy of details, context, & meanings of the event.

This is a story about injustice, doubt, fear, pain, & ultimately, a degrading death. It tells how God experienced these things in the same way as ordinary human beings.

Some critics call the film a religious classic, while others found the extreme violence distracting & excessive. Others claim that the film promotes anti-semitism since we know for a fact that jews murdered Jesus Christ. It is the highest-grossing Christian film of all time.
