Remember, in order to supernaturally merit for your fasting you must be in a state of grace. An act of perfect contrition will be able to restore you to grace provided you meet all the conditions if you cannot receive the sacrament of penance at this time.

Before you ever defend JPII again or call him a "Saint", consider the following words in which he espoused relating to the Incarnation:

This is blatant heresy, as St. Thomas Aquinas points out here, "The Word of God "did not assume human nature in general, but 'in atomo'"—that is, in an individual—as Damascene says (De Fide Orth. iii, 11) otherwise every man would be the Word of God, even as Christ was." - Summa Theologiae, Pt. III, Q. 2, A. 2, Reply to Obj 3.

He also taught that Christianity can be defined as the "Amazement of man."

When people try to object to this by saying that what JPII taught about the incarnation and man is actually orthodox and in accordance with Thomistic theology. This couldn't be further from the truth and proves that these people have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to act and potency.
