IS THERE ANYTHING MORE DANGEROUS THAN DISSATISFIED AND IRRESPONSIBLE GODS WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT?
Afterword: The Animal that Became a God, Sapiens by Yuval N. Harari
SEVENTY THOUSAND YEARS AGO, HOMO sapiens was still an insignificant animal minding its own business in a corner of Africa. In the following millennia it transformed itself into the master of the entire planet and the terror of the ecosystem. Today it stands on the verge of becoming a god, poised to acquire not only eternal youth, but also the divine abilities of creation and destruction.
Unfortunately, the Sapiens regime on earth has so far produced little that we can be proud of. We have mastered our surroundings, increased food production, built cities, established empires and created far-flung trade networks. But did we decrease the amount of suffering in the world? Time and again, massive increases in human power did not necessarily improve the well-being of individual Sapiens, and usually caused immense misery to other animals.
In the last few decades we have at last made some real progress as far as the human condition is concerned, with the reduction of famine, plague and war. Yet the situation of other animals is deteriorating more rapidly than ever before, and the improvement in the lot of humanity is too recent and fragile to be certain of.
Moreover, despite the astonishing things that humans are capable of doing, we remain unsure of our goals and we seem to be as discontented as ever. We have advanced from canoes to galleys to steamships to space shuttles – but nobody knows where we’re going. We are more powerful than ever before, but have very little idea what to do with all that power. Worse still, humans seem to be more irresponsible than ever. Self-made gods with only the laws of physics to keep us company, we are accountable to no one. We are consequently wreaking havoc on our fellow animals and on the surrounding ecosystem, seeking little more than our own comfort and amusement, yet never finding satisfaction.
Is there anything more dangerous than dissatisfied and irresponsible gods who don’t know what they want?

Presidential, or Glass, Teleprompters
The screen with mirrored text is on the floor at the base of a stand supporting a One-way mirror at the top, angled down towards the screen. The speaker sees the text on the screen reflected in the mirror, while the audience only see what looks like a sheet of tinted glass in front of the speaker.

After a rare night spent in his apartment in Trump Tower, he appeared relaxed, reading from two teleprompters in a steady tone. But the script also included distinctly Trumpian flourishes. The hall, filled with world leaders, hummed as he said aloud the nicknames and catchphrases he has used on Twitter — “Rocket Man” for North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, “loser terrorists” for people from the Middle East perpetuating violence around the globe.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s memo on London ban: ‘There is a high cost to a bad reputation’
“Going forward, it’s critical that we act with integrity in everything we do.”
Uber’s new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is just a month into his new job and is already battling local regulators.
“It’s critical that we act with integrity in everything we do, and learn how to be a better partner to every city we operate in,” he wrote. “That doesn’t mean abandoning our principles — we will vigorously appeal TfL’s decision — but rather building trust through our actions and our behavior. In doing so, we will show that Uber is not just a really great product, but a really great company that is meaningfully contributing to society, beyond its business and its bottom line.”

It does matter who says the words…. By Dr Firouz Naderi
In his speech to the UN, Donald Trump READ a passage on the plight of the Iranian people that could have been written by many of us who have been fiercely critical of the occupation of the Iran by the IRI. But …. does anyone really believe that this unprincipled man cares about the people of Iran? This man who puts sanctions in place that primarily hurt the Iranian people, slaps travel ban that impedes Iranian students, grandmothers, and ordinary Iranian citizens from coming to the US, arms Saudi Arabia, and Netanyahu to the teeth who are itching to bomb Iran, is he now the champion of Iranian people? No thank you. Friends like this we do not need.
You do not liberate your country by turning it into another Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. You do not shoot yourself in the head to get rid of your cancer. You do not burn down your house to get rid of the people who have invaded your home and taken your family hostage. The change needs to come from within not from Beverly Hills, South of France, or the Iranian “patriot” who types fiery articles on his laptop from the safety of his home in suburban London….. or a US President who is tearing his own country apart.
The change needs to come from within – with the right help from the outside. Allow Iranian economy to grow on the shoulders of the young educated Iranian entrepreneurs. Open up the banking system and allow Iran out of isolation. Will the corrupt politicians, Sepah and the regime benefit also? Yes. But the people will benefit more and will in time turn this ship tanker around.

NFL players staged an unprecedented wave of protest on Sunday, beginning at Wembley Stadium in London, as Donald Trump maintained his attack on players who #kneel in protest against the national anthem.
It was a climactic day for a movement that began with a single backup quarterback #kneeling before a pre-season game 13 months ago and has since prompted a nation to wrestle with questions of free speech and racial justice.
Colin Kaepernick, then with the San Francisco 49ers, kneeled in an attempt to provoke debate over race and police brutality. He is now without a team but active players have followed his example. This weekend, the protest spilled into baseball: the Oakland A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell kneeled during the anthem before a game against the Texas Rangers.

Dr Firouz Naderi, My Take on Trump’s Iran Policy Announcement
On Friday Trump said certain things that were music to the ears of Iranians – both inside the country and within the diaspora. He said the Regime is spending Iran’s riches on various groups fighting in the middle east rather than on its own people. And, that the Regime has oppressed Iran’s noble nation by suppressing people’s freedom. I agree with him.
What I despise is his dishonesty. The man who has no empathy for people of Puerto Rico, who are American citizens, cares NOT about the people of Iran. His attempt to dismantle the nuclear agreement is motivated by a) his obsession to eviscerate anything that Obama has accomplished, b) throwing red meat to his ignorant redneck base, and c) kowtow to Saudi Arabia and Netanyahu. It has nothing to do with protecting America’s interest and security since all his top generals have counseled him against pulling out of this agreement. Further, the proposed additional sanctions he wants to levy will not hurt the “sepah” who will find a way around them but will further squeeze the common people.
Finally, the man who touts his respect for the Iranian nation, history, and culture would do best to call the Persian Gulf by its proper name rather than what appeases his Arabian bankers.

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Person asked a young Engineer fresh out of MIT, "And what starting salary were you looking for?"
The Engineer said, "In the neighborhood of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."
The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5 weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, a company matching retirement fund for 50% of your salary, and a company car leased every 2 years-say, a red Corvette?"
The Engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?"
And the interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it"
