Samsung Messages is no longer preinstalled on new Galaxy devices in the U.S., starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung confirmed to Android Authority that the removal of the Samsung Messages app is, indeed, limited to the U.S. right now, and that the decision was made to accelerate the adoption of (Google's) RCS implementation and the Google Messages app.

Samsung said the Galaxy Ring won't require a subscription...but fine print suggests that only "currently available" Samsung Health features won't need one and that "different terms may apply" for future features.

Heads up: Auto Blocker is turned on by default on Galaxy devices launching with One UI 6.1.1, which means that sideloading apps is blocked by default. If you're a power user, you can temporarily (or permanently) turn off Auto Blocker. Here's how.
Oh wow, Epic Games is pulling Fortnite and its other games from the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of the Auto Blocker change I first reported on earlier this week.

I should note that the pop-up in One UI 6.1.1 already tells you how to turn off Auto Blocker. Plus, sideloading is technically already disallowed by default in Android.

However, Sweeney and Epic have been fighting against what they call "nag" screens and any extra hurdles to sideloading, so I can see why they'd take this stance.

Samsung added two new audio settings in One UI 6.1.1 that I absolutely LOVE: boost dialogue and loudness normalization.

The former makes it easier to hear dialogue in TV shows and movies, while the latter normalizes volume levels of music.

More details on each feature can be found in this article on Android Authority.

Google Chrome could soon be less annoying when downloading APKs

Chrome is preparing to no longer show the "file might be harmful" warning when downloading APKs, but only if Google Play Protect is enabled.

This not only makes sideloading APKs slightly less annoying when using Google Chrome but also reduces the number of steps it takes to sideload an app on Android.

Qualcomm has quietly launched Device Cloud, a service that lets you remotely test your apps or AI workloads on real Qualcomm Reference Devices with a variety of Snapdragon mobile chips, including the 8 Gen 3 and X Elite!

It's free to try and you get a lot of time to start with.

Before this, there was really no way to test things out on a QRD unless you bought one from the gray market or were invited by QCom to test one at launch.

Wavelet has done it again: The best equalizer app for Android just added a feature I didn't know I needed until now: equal loudness.

Equal loudness fixes the issue where, if you lower the volume of your music, frequencies in the midrange sound much louder than low or high frequencies.

Why is that a big deal? Well, at lower volumes, it means a lot of the "thumpiness" in the bass gets drowned out.

After enabling equal loudness in Wavelet, though, music sounds WAY better to me at low volumes.

This feature is available now in the most recent beta version of Wavelet and will roll out in the stable channel once Google Play approves the update.

You need the Pro version of the app, which costs $4.99, but I have 35 promo codes to share with you folks on Telegram. See the comments to grab a code!

If you want more information on Wavelet's new equal loudness feature and the issue it solves, check out this article I wrote on the update:

"This app makes your music sound way better when you lower the volume [Giveaway]"

Android 15 is supposed to force apps to go edge-to-edge, but Google quietly added an API to opt out.

This API isn't mentioned in the developer docs, blog posts, codelabs, etc., though, and it's set to be deprecated in the future.
