The fact that Anvil Work Penalty is still a thing 9 and a half years after Mending released
Is actually fucking ridiculous.
Having to combine Enchantment books in specific orders and not using the repair mechanic to avoid "Too Expensive!" Is seriously stupid and outdated. All it does is punish casual players who dont know any better, and forces players who understand how it works to wait until they have every enchanment book before making their Tools rather than gradually upgrading and improving them over time, which would be a lot more fulfilling.
And that's not even mentioning the fact that this system makes Mending practically Mandatory and all the other issues that come with it.
It made sense back then, when they wanted to prevent players from making super tools that you can infinitely repair and never need to make a new one, back when breaking and replacing tools was the norm..
But these days? Ever since Mending released that logic has been gone. Work Penalty is a severely outdated mechanic that does not fit into todays Minecraft and it needs to change, and it's been LONG overdue.
