STOP USING ESSENTIAL MOD, USE ALTERNATIVES

I can’t believe I need to say this, but please uninstall the Essential mod. If you want to play online with friends, use the Worldhost mod, or the e4mc mod, there’s 0 reasons to use Essential.

Edit: Essential is literal bloatware (like others mentioned, filled with microtransactions and completely unnecessary things so that they can more easily collect users data), and borderline malware (a few users mentioned that the patch no longer works? If this is true and they crash your game for having the patch installed, it IS malware).

I am not sure about the current situation, but the developers also were pushing against making the mod opensource, a huge red flag with any software that collects user data (especiallyfor a Minecraft mod). I think right now they have a version that is sort of open source, but given their past, I highly doubt that it is the same as the actual version users are able to install.

It is very sad to see that people install it just for the online feature, not knowing about the much better alternatives I mentioned before

Gregtech is a magic mod

Gregtech machines accomplish similar tasks to Botania flowers. As we all know, Botania is a magic mod. Therefore Gregtech is a magic mod

I made an open-source mod that routes Minecraft LAN worlds through Steam P2P. No more Hamachi or port forwarding.

I built a lightweight mod called Steam Bridge (Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge) that replaces standard Minecraft network sockets with Steam P2P. It allows hosting "Open to LAN" worlds or connecting to friends without opening ports, setting up VPNs (Hamachi/Radmin), or using public HTTP tunnels (e4mc).

The project is fully open-source. Under the hood, it embeds steamworks4j and JNA binaries to communicate with the official Steamworks API, routing all traffic through Steam Datagram Relay (SDR). No external libraries are required.

To connect, the host just shares their SteamID64, which the client pastes directly into the standard "Server Address" field. There is also a simple "S" button added to the UI that pulls up the native Steam overlay friends list.

The source code is licensed under MIT.
