Is 1.20.1 the new 1.12.2?

Kind of random, but I've noticed a trend where all the new, 'cool' mods are porting to 1.20.1. This is similar to how in the past the majority of mods were in 1.12.2, such as galacticraft. Basically every good mod was in 1.12.2. This trend is repeating, but in 2026 with 1.20.1. Is there a specific reason in coding why devs tend to chose these versions?

A cursed mod experiment (kinda like a jam, shares ad revenue)

Because people want silly human mods here...

I made a silly mod that accepts literally any (within reason) PR, including ones that change that rule. And ofc, I'll split ad revenue between contributors in a way that makes it fair (probably democratic votes).

I wrote a couple of small systems so multiple people can add content (hopefully) without breaking all other mods at the same time.

A week (unless ppl need more time) from now I'll submit the mod to Modrinth with hopefully everyone added as contributors. Idrk how it'll go but it'll be fun to see!

Thought ATM 10 was too much for me, i was wrong.

Im relatively new to modding, and honestly havent played that much minecraft other than the bi-yearly 2 week cycle.

When i started ATM 10 I quickly got super overwhelmed by the amount of items pouring into my inventory and almost gave up. Im so glad i didn’t because this is like a dopamine fountain.

If you’re in a similar spot, all i’ll say is push through until you have a good storage situation and then start setting goals or following quests. It has been so rewarding to slowly learn mods. It hurts my brain, but in a good way.

Also im playing hardcore which makes it that much more exciting. Sea serpents scared the shit out of me.
