Trying to find a new Quest-based Modpack to play, frustrated finding a good one other than Cuboid Outpost
Maybe I’m picky, but I don’t have all the time in the world to keep trying modpacks that I just end up dropping immediately or spending hours troubleshooting to make it “worth playing”.
I don’t have hours and hours to grind a modpack every day, so I’d like it to feel like I’ve accomplished even just a bit of something in the couple hours I’ll play each week.
I’ve played lightly modded for years now with things like appleskin and zoom mods, QoL sorts of things. But the second it comes to these heavier modpacks I feel lost.
The only mod pack I’ve spent a significant amount of time in that I really enjoy is Cuboid Outpost Luxury Edition. It’s basically the perfect modpack to me. But I also want to find another modpack I’d enjoy as well.
Things I like in modpacks:
- Quest based (I hate modpacks that give zero information or the quest book tells you like 10 different things total. I’m not joining a discord or searching an incomprehensible wiki for a Minecraft modpack.)
- Start with nothing, progress from there. (Not necessary, but I really liked this with Cuboid. I’ve tried skyfactory as well, can’t play any skyfactory anymore due to soured memories of an old friend)
- I do like tech-based things and automation, but sometimes I feel in over my head, so I’d like the quest book to be good at explaining it.
Immediately dropping the pack if:
- Whole pack relies on Create mod. Some create aspects are fine imo, but if create is the point of the pack or if there is no way to do something without create, I don’t want to play it.
- Any changes to vanilla combat like dodging, rolling, sliding, etc. I still want to play Minecraft, not a souls game. New weapons and armor is fine, just keep the combat/movement itself vanilla. This also means no do a barrel roll.
- All the Mods. I don’t want to play these packs.
- Heavy Magic. A spell scroll or something like that is fine, but I don’t want to play Wizard simulator, I’d just play BG3 at that point
- Thirst bar. I do not want to be purifying water forever. I will not play a modpack with this. Temperature is fine though.
- “Immersion” mods that give similar effects like view bobbing, I turn that shit off because it makes me nauseous and I get motion-sickness. I do not care about your shitty “wow! Look at this slight blur and minimal tilt that makes you feel like you’re in the game!” I will throw up.
- Changes to changing perspective. Seeing my character in 1st person: just let me know if the mod is there and I’ll delete it. No 2nd person: don’t even suggest it. Smoothing the cut between perspectives: It’s annoying and takes so much time.
- Smoothing or other animations in moving stuff in my inventory. It’s annoying and dumb. I speedrun the base game and enjoy things like bingo, I do not want some stupid mod changing base game like that.
- Most of my major complaints are everything to do with the “Aged” modpack. I hate its dumb and uninformative Quest book, I hate its thirst system, I hate the bs mods I spent hours trying to find that make disabling view bobbing do nothing, I hate how bad the audio balancing is, I hate the shitty walking animation, I hate the way it changed perspective switching, that modpack is the epitome of combining everything I hate in modpacks.
Other notes:
- I really like Applied Energistics 2 if the pack doesn’t have this, it needs another storage system that is like it
- I like Mekanism in Cuboid
- Sifting is cool
- I would really prefer 1.14+ packs because I find it annoying when I can’t crouch under a slab
- There should be compatibility mods that allow me to use an ingredient of the same name in another mod’s recipe
- I like new food and crop mods, but not a dealbreaker without it
- Preferably a pack that won’t take me years to “beat”, but as long as I feel like I’m doing something and progressing through the quest book, this isn’t too hard of a

Looking for a Balanced, Expansive Modpack to Enjoy
I tend to get bored easily with Minecraft when I don't have mods, but I'm also finding the packs I create lack the pizzazz since I only really know how to configure mods and throw them in with one another, not creating interconnecting stuff or coding/scripting, so I'm looking for existing packs. I might just suck at searching on my own but the packs I find tend to have little substance beyond throwing stuff together like I do, are easily broken by speedrunning through one mod, or require so much farming and/or RNG that reaching even midgame is comparable to a 9-5 job.
My only serious requirements are that it has little to no horror - or that any horror aspects can be turned off without affecting progression, because I am admittedly a scared little bitch who cowers even with mods like Born in Chaos - and that it be for a relatively recent version or uses a mod that backports modern content. I have a preference for a balance between magic and tech for power systems and progression, but I won't shake my nose at one that relies more heavily or only has one.
In terms of the content I'm looking for, I want something that makes the world expansive and varied, with interesting generation and structures; something with loads to do via quests and/or progression, some level of story through the world and/or through actual quests and NPCs; something balanced where the mods' progressions and equipment flow into each other and it's hard to break the pack by relying on a single mod's features; something where the goal or final stage of progression isn't necessarily omnipotence or overpowered to where nothing matters.

Modpacks that “scale” in difficulty
Hi,
Does anyone know any packs that scale in difficulty the longer you play. Similar to the fungus or parasite modpacks, where the longer you play the more difficult it becomes to survive. I could never quite find a fungus one that was correctly edited to where it wasn’t “too hard” but also not “easy”
Looking for a pack that’s relatively quick, in the sense that it becomes too difficult to continue playing, so you have to reset
Thanks

Looking for a Modpack that feels like you’re “surviving”
Essentially the title.
Love modpacks where it feels like you’re actually in the world trying to survive, ie: seasons, temperature, and thirst.
Would love one that’s large and has a lot of different things to do, and doesn’t feel like “minecraft”
Any suggestions would help! :)
