Ceramics and Inspirations on 1.20.1
For anyone unfamiliar, Ceramics and Inspirations are both mods created by KnightMiner, who is also the current lead developer for Tinkers’ Construct. Ceramics is a standalone simple fluid transfer mod, both reusing the ideas of faucets and channels from Tinkers’…
Here’s why it seems like so many mods are Create addons despite not really being related
I’ve been seeing this sentiment lately that there’s a large amount of mods that are Create addons even though there’s no reason for them not to be standalone. Some people even list it as the reason they dislike Create.
The thing is, these mods do need to be Create addons (for now; more on this later). The Create mod isn’t “just” the cogs and belts and crushing wheels and minecart contraptions. None of that stuff would be possible without a separate rendering engine from the one Minecraft uses. Ever wonder why Better Than Wolves didn’t let its shafts rotate? This is why. For most modern developers, that would be the end of the road. They would either scrap the mod or give up on being able to animate it or have any contraptions at all. But these crazy MFs said “nah, screw that” and wrote one themselves. It’s called Flywheel, and it’s the reason we’re able to have rotating cogs, moving contraptions, and so on.
Now, Flywheel is not just for the Create devs to use. They released it along with the rest of Create’s code to the public. This means that other mod developers are able to do things with their mods that would not have been feasible before. Currently, all of these mods have to release as Create addons, or at least have Create as a dependency, because they literally use its code just like any other library mod.
Flywheel was recently released as a standalone mod though, so soon you’ll see mods, which previously would have required Create, only requiring Flywheel’s standalone version. It’s also likely that they wouldn’t be labeled as Create addons given that they don’t require it.
It’s totally understandable to wonder why a mod that thematically has nothing to do with Create would require it. Hopefully this has cleared it up a bit.
