💢British ministry of defence: On 3 May 2023 a fire broke out at a Russian fuel depot in Volna on the Russian mainland side of the Kerch Strait, close to the Crimean bridge. It was initiated by a suspected drone strike.This follows a pattern of Russian fuel storage sites being damaged since the start of the year, with fuel depots in occupied Ukraine and the Russia-Ukraine border regions remaining particularly vulnerable to attack.The disruption to the fuel storage and distribution network will likely force adjustments to Russia's military refuelling operations to mitigate targeting. Russian adjustments could include deploying additional protection measures at fuel storage sites, as seen in Tuaspe in Russia, or relying on infrastructure in less threatened regions.

💢Russia ministry of defence: Russian Deputy Defence Minister Colonel General Aleksandr Fomin holds a briefing attended by military attachés of friendly countries. Based on doctrinal documents, Russian approaches to nuclear deterrence were presented. The enemy's losses in this direction during the day amounted to over 385 Ukrainian servicemen and mercenaries, one tank, four armoured fighting vehicles, four motor vehicles, and D-20 and D-30 howitzers. In Kherson direction, more than 40 Ukrainian servicemen, three motor vehicles, one Giatsint-B howitzer, and one Akatsiya self-propelled gun have been eliminated during the day. Russian Su-35 crew detects and destroys an AFU aircraft in the special military operation area. Press centre chiefs of Vostok, Tsentr, Zapad, and Yug groups of forces make statements on current situation in the areas of responsibility.

In Donetsk direction, the assault detachments continued to conduct offensive actions against the enemy in the western part of Artyomovsk

▪️The paratroopers provided support and restrained the enemy on the flanks. The attacks, launched by Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, as well as artillery of the Yug Group of Forces, have resulted in the neutralisation of the enemy manpower and hardware close to Kalinovka and Krasnoye (Donetsk People's Republic). Russian units have destroyed the bridge used by the AFU to transport ammunition and reserves to Artyomovsk close to Chasov Yar (Donetsk People's Republic). The aviation have made 7 sorties in this direction

▪️The Group's artillery have performed 69 firing missions. Two ammunition depots of 54th and 110th mechanised brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have been destroyed near Kramatorsk and Avdeyevka (Donetsk People's Republic). The enemy losses were up to 300 Ukrainian servicemen and mercenaries, 3 infantry fighting vehicles, 4 armoured fighting vehicles, 1 Grad MLRS, and 1 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system

▪️The enemy losses were over 90 servicemen, 1 tank, 5  motor vehicles, 1 D-30 howitzer and 1 U.S.-manufactured M777 artillery system. In Kherson direction, the enemy losses were up to 80 Ukrainian servicemen, 15 armoured fighting vehicles, 23 motor vehicles, 1 Msta-B howitzer, as well as 3 D-30 howitzers. Operational-Tactical and Army aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have neutralised 107 artillery units of the AFU at their firing positions, manpower and military hardware at 123 areas

Six Russian regions, occupied Crimea, and 21 cities have cancelled their 09 May Victory Day parades citing security concerns. Victory Day commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Moscow's Victory Day celebration is likely to go ahead but on a smaller scale. Russian President Vladimir Putin's reception following the parade (last held in 2019) will not go ahead.The traditional March of the Immortal Regiment, where family members display photographs of deceased veterans of the Second World War, associated with Victory Day, has also been cancelled. This follows the recent cancellation of the Russian-hosted International Army Games.The timing of the UAV strike on the Kremlin a few days before Victory Day shows Russia's increasing vulnerability to such attacks and has almost certainly raised the threat perception of the Russian leadership over the Victory Day events. The potential for protests and discontent over the Ukraine war are also likely to have influenced the calculus of the Russian leadership.
