🚨Italian Navy boarded the oil tanker Toa Payoh, linked to Russia’s so-called "Shadow Fleet" in international waters west of Pantelleria, the island between Tunisia and Sicily. The operation was carried out by the Italian warship Thaon di Revel, flagship of the EU’s Operation EUNAVFOR MED IRINI, which monitors arms and oil trafficking in the Mediterranean. The tanker which is subject to EU sanctions and was sailing under a Cameroonian flag, had departed Cotonou (Benin) on 16 July bound for Istanbul. When the captain initially refused to cooperate with a standard inspection, an Italian military team was flown over by helicopter from Thaon di Revel and boarded the vessel. The action was supported by a Greek naval ship and a Polish maritime patrol aircraft. The roughly two-hour operation concluded without incident
