Israeli forces have continued their raid and attacks on Gaza City’s al-Shifa medical complex for the tenth consecutive day.

The Israeli army says it killed “dozens” of Hamas and Islamic Jihad gunmen in the past day, but Hamas denies having any of its fighters inside the hospital. Israel has repeatedly accused Hamas of operating inside hospitals - a charge which the Palestinian group has consistently denied.

Israeli forces have been attacking and laying siege to al-Shifa hospital since 18 March. The medical complex is the largest in the Gaza Strip, with some 30,000 people seeking refuge there prior to the current raid.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor rights group said on Saturday that it documented “a series of crimes systematically committed by Israeli forces” in the area of the hospital in Gaza City over the past week.

The abuses, according to Euro-Med, include extrajudicial executions, communication cutoffs, and intense shelling targeting homes surrounding the medical complex.
Samer Abed, an eyewtiness who refrained from sharing his full name, spoke to MEE’s correspondent in Gaza City about the Israeli army’s destruction of homes and buildings around al-Shifa medical complex.

Abed, who is currently staying roughly 400 metres away from the hospital, said him and his brothers started receiving calls from the Israeli army roughly a week after the start of their raid on al-Shifa. The man on the phone would instruct them to get residents out of buildings in their vicinity they are about to blow up, and send them to the south of the Gaza Strip.

Prior to that, Abed said buildings would get blown up without prior warning.

The army would give them a certain amount of time before starting to bomb the area.

“The bombs go down and don’t care about us,” he said.

MEE’s correspondent says the Israeli army struck and leveled almost every single building in al-Shifa’s vicinity.

🎥 Farah Raheem, a young girl from north of Gaza, spoke about what she faced while fleeing south after her family home was stormed and damaged by Israeli soldiers.

She described seeing many bodies covered with flies laying along the road she took and how that caused her to have a headache and feel faint.

Doctors in Gaza have repeatedly sounded the alarm over the worsening mental health of children in Gaza. Many have been developing symptoms of severe PTSD, such as sleeping and eating disorders, and losing the ability to cry.

🎥 “We hope that this show conveys a message to people that we are here and steadfast, and that the smile will remain on the children’s faces forever.”

Volunteers dressed up as characters and clowns performed on Monday in front of Palestinian children during an entertainment show organised in a school in Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, which is currently being used as a shelter.

The performers said they organised the show to help lift the spirits of children as they face traumas caused by Israel’s war on Gaza.

In a letter signed by over 130 parliamentarians, British MPs and peers are saying that continuing arms business with Israel is “totally unacceptable” as UK-made arms are being used by the Israeli army in Gaza.

The letter, coordinated by Labour MP Zarah Sultana, sites a case where a fighter jet made with UK parts was probably responsible for bombing British doctors in the Palestinian enclave.

The parliamentarians also refer to other countries, most recently Canada, who have halted exports sales to Israel over concerns over its actions in Gaza.

The letter comes after a UN Security Council resolution which called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Israel seemed undeterred by the resolution, as it continued its relentless bombing and military operations in the enclave with the civilian death toll continuously rising.

🎥 Women in Baghdad took to the streets on Monday to demonstrate against Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, describing him as “the enemy of God” for not keeping the Rafah crossing open to aid and people.

In February, el-Sisi denied allegations that it was Egypt blocking aid from entering through the crossing and instead blamed Israel, despite the Rafah crossing not being under direct Israeli control.

Many in the Arab world are of the opinion that the Egyptian government is complicit in the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by complying with Israel’s requests.

🎥 “They threw the missile at us directly, I swear to God.”

Displaced Palestinians recount the moment Israeli forces raided the houses near Al-Shifa Hospital. The Palestinian man mentioned that they “raised the white flag”; however, they started “throwing shells.”

The hospital has been under siege since 18 March, when Israeli forces stormed the compound in Gaza City. An estimated 30,000 people, including displaced civilians, wounded patients, and medical staff, were sheltering there.

📰 A State Department official resigned on Wednesday in protest against the Biden administration’s support for Israel, saying it had made her job promoting human rights “almost impossible”.

Annelle Sheline, 38, resigned midway through her two-year contract with the US Department of State as a foreign affairs officer in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

Sheline said that given her position, she didn’t believe it mattered enough to announce her resignation publicly but was encouraged by other State Department staff opposed to US support for Israel’s war on Gaza.

“The response I heard repeatedly was, 'please speak for us'.”

“By resigning publicly, I am saddened by the knowledge that I likely foreclose a future at the State Department,” she wrote in an open letter on CNN.
