Dear Members of the FIRA community,
Please read this letter carefully as it includes some important information for all FIRA participants.
📣 FIRA 2020 moved to Aug. 2021 in Sao Luis, Brasil.
Due to the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic, the FIRA HQ after consultation with all members of the local organizing committees have decided to delay the FIRA RoboWorld Cup until Aug. 2021. At the moment, the situation is extremely volatile and it is impossible to predict when life will return to normal.
This decision was a very difficult one for the FIRA HQ, but we wanted to make sure that FIRA participants can focus on staying safe and healthy and do not have to deal with uncertainty due to the timing and possible cancellation of the FIRA RoboWorld Cup.
Like many of you, I felt sentimental after the banquet of the FIRA 2019 competition in Changwon, Korea and was looking forward to meeting everybody again. However, safety is of the utmost importance and I look forward to personally welcoming you all at the next FIRA event.
FIRA 2020 Social Distancing Competition (Aug. 5th - 8th UTC 2020), Online only
Instead of focusing on the negatives of the current pandemic, the FIRA HQ sees this current situation as an opportunity to grow. Therefore, we are planning an online only competition for FIRA Pro and Youth participants. In particular, we plan to use the current rules for social distancing and isolation and the current as a new research challenge for our league chairs and co-chairs.
Based on the research interests and strength of the FIRA community, we are currently designing several new competitions that will focus on the tele-operation of real or simulated robots through the Internet. The robots will be provided by several competition centers world-wide, who will also supervise the scoring of the event. The task domains are based on the use of robotics technology in combating the current COVID-19 and future pandemics.
We will also hold several 1hr workshops where students can build and program a variety of robot systems from home.
All competitions and events of the FIRA 2020 Social Distancing event are open to FIRA Youth or FIRA Pro teams.
These plans are still preliminary, since we were all caught by surprise by the pandemic. We plan to publish the Call for Participation and rules within the next month.
FIRA Town Hall Meeting: 9th April 2020, 19:00 CST
For more discussion, the FIRA HQ has scheduled a town hall meeting for Thursday, 9th April 2020 at 19:00 Taiwan time.
FIRA HQ as well as the available competition chairs and chapter heads. The meeting will take place on the FIRA discord channel

In spite of the fact that there will be no FIRA RoboWorld Cup this year, we may still host one or more smaller localised events at the end of 2020. If and where these events can be held is currently impossible to predict due to the highly volatile situation with COVID-19.

وِیمو، پروژۀ خودران گوگل
گوگل یکی از شرکتهای پیشگام در طراحی و اجرای خودروهای خودران بوده است. پروژۀ خودروی خودران این شرکت از بیش از یک دهه پیش کلید خورد و هم اکنون مدتی است که با نام ویمو به فعالیت خود ادامه میدهد.
هدف گوگل در این پروژه، خودرانش کامل است، به این معنا که تمام فرایند رانندگی توسط هوش مصنوعی انجام شود و هیچ دخالت انسانی در آن وجود نداشته باشد. ویمو در ابتدا خودروهای خود را به صورت آزمایشی در نقاط مختلفی از آمریکا تست کرد و با میلیونها مایل رانندگی واقعی در جادهها و خیابانها و میلیاردها مایل شبیهسازی، توانست به کمک ماشین لرنینگ دقت و ایمنی خودروهای خود را به بالاترین سطح ممکن برساند. به گفتۀ خود شرکت، هدف این پروژه از اتوماسیون کامل رانندگی، حذف خطای انسانی و به تبع آن کاهش بسیار زیاد تصادفات رانندگی است. علاوه بر این، خودروی کاملا خودران میتواند برای افرادی که توانایی رانندگی ندارند بسیار مفید باشد.
در حال حاضر ناوگان ویمو متشکل از خودروهای تاکسی خودران است که به صورت محدود در قسمتی از آمریکا مشغول به سرویسدهی هستند.
