Lauderhill police officer Michael Bigwood, previously arrested for pointing a gun at his ex and threatening to kill her and their children, is again under investigation after already having been fired twice by the same department. Both times Bigwood managed to keep his position through arbitration, holding the positions of lieutenant in criminal investigations unit and in the training division, where he was tasked with training new officers.

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers and other protesters have gathered in Naples for a demonstration demanding justice for Nicolás Morales Bessania, an unarmed father murdered by police during a mental health crisis on September 17th, 2020.

Civil rights organizations, such as the CIW and the Lee County NAACP, have so far tried in futility to obtain more information about the legal backing to the State Attorney's decision not to charge any officers who carried out the shooting.
