i prefer not to speak; if i speak, i am in a big trouble
speaking of, i just ran a quick scan on the library WiFi (which got associated devices belonging to the staff running on the network). so, i've seen worst case scenarios when large organizations and hotels having security cameras running on the same network which is public to users. unless they buy from a really aware and security-oriented vendor, most ports are open to exploitation. you can even stream the videos from port 554 which supports real time streaming protocol (RTSP). glad that the uni runs most of its internal devices on a separate network. the heat controlling device is still accessible tho 💀

countermeasures

- Use VLANs or Subnets: If your router supports it, create a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) or separate subnet for your cameras.
- Implement Strong Passwords
- Regular Updates: Keep the firmware and software of your cameras up-to-date
- Firewall Protection: Utilize firewalls to monitor and control incoming and outgoing traffic to your camera network
