Did you know that the Turing Test, proposed by mathematician Alan Turing in 1950, is a measure of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that of a human? If a human evaluator cannot reliably tell whether they are interacting with a machine or a human, the machine is said to have passed the test. While no AI has fully passed the Turing Test yet, advancements continue to be made in this area.

Stefan Thomas, a German-born programmer living in San Francisco, owns a small hard drive that holds the keys to a fortune — 7,002 Bitcoin, worth over $200 million. But there’s one problem: he forgot the password. The drive, an IronKey, gives users only 10 attempts before it encrypts itself forever. He’s already used up 8. Stefan earned the Bitcoin back in 2011 for making a video about how cryptocurrency works — and promptly forgot about it. Years later, as Bitcoin skyrocketed in value, he found the IronKey… but not the password. “I would just lay in bed and think about it,” he said in interviews. “Then I’d go to the computer with a new strategy, and it wouldn’t work.” Now, he refuses to let the pressure consume him. “Time heals all wounds,” he jokes — even the ones worth $200 million.

Jack Dorsey has announced a new decentralized messaging app called Bitchat. It’s a peer-to-peer public domain messaging project that operates over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks. Bitchat is said to offer a more secure method of messaging, protected by end-to-end encryption. The app doesn’t require internet, an account, or even a phone number to function.
