康奈尔大学研究人员发现,掺杂了氮的碳涂层镍阳极可催化氢燃料电池中的基本反应,成本仅为目前使用的贵金属方法的一小部分。这一新发现可推动氢燃料电池的普及,作为汽车等的高效、清洁能源,氢燃料电池具有广阔的前景。Hector D. Abruna 实验室在寻找可用于碱性燃料电池的活性、廉价、耐用的催化剂,这是此项工作的一系列发现之一。
研究人员在发表于 PNAS 期刊的论文中指出,最近对非贵金属 HOR 电催化剂进行的实验需要克服两个主要挑战:氢结合能过强导致本征活性低,以及金属氧化物形成造成的快速钝化导致耐久性差。为了克服这些挑战,研究人员设计出了一种镍基电催化剂,其外壳由掺杂了氮的碳制成,厚度为 2 纳米。他们的氢燃料电池有一个阳极(氢被氧化)催化剂,该催化剂是一个被碳壳包裹的实心镍核。当与钴锰阴极(氧气被还原)配对时,所得到的完全不含贵金属的氢燃料电池每平方厘米的输出功率超过了 200 毫瓦。镍电极表面上存在的氧化镍物质显著减慢了氢氧化反应(HOR)。掺杂了氮的碳涂层作为保护层,增强了HOR反应,让反应更快速、更有效。而且镍电极上石墨烯涂层的存在可以防止氧化镍的形成——从而大大延长了电极的使用寿命。这些电极对一氧化碳的耐受性也更强,一氧化碳会迅速毒化铂。

In the early days of Linux, kernel developers had to adapt to whatever the hardware manufacturers put out; the alternative was to not have hardware to run on at all.
