Pakistan’s Concern Over India’s Potential F-35 Acquisition

Retired Major General Zahid Mahmood of the Pakistani Army has raised concerns over India's possible acquisition of the F-35 Lightning II fighter jets from the United States. Speaking to local media, he warned that the induction of these advanced fifth-generation stealth fighters could significantly shift the regional strategic balance, particularly affecting Pakistan.

Maj Gen Mahmood suggested that the presence of F-35s in the Indian Air Force (IAF) could embolden India to adopt a more aggressive military posture, particularly in regions like Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

To counter this potential threat, he emphasized the need for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to explore defensive measures, including enhancing air defense systems, strengthening electronic warfare capabilities, or acquiring advanced fighter jets from allies such as China.
