β’ As on June 30, 2024, gold loan GNPA ratio 0.22% for banks, 2.58% for upper & middle layer NBFCs
β’ Banks & NBFCs taking several steps to mitigate risks involved in gold loans, ensuring proper valuation of gold offered as collateral
β’ Assessment and Reassessment of gold offered as collateral at regular intervals
β’ Audits at periodic intervals to ensure gold loans follow regulatory guidelines
β’ In case customer fails to repay the loan pledged gold can be auctioned with advance notice
β’ Govt advised banks to review sanctions/disbursement of gold loans from January 1, 2022 To December 31, 2024
β’ RBI on September 30, 2024 advised supervised entities to review, identify gaps in time bound manner.
β’ Lenders taking safeguards against risks such as gold price fluctuations, valuation errors
β’ 75% Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratio required to be maintained throughout the loan tenure
