• Gold loan GNPAs up 18.14% in banks, Upper & Middle Layer NBFCs from March 2024 June 2024

• Gold loan NPAs in banks up 21% during the same period

• As on June 30, 2024, gold loan GNPA ratio 0.22% for banks, 2.58% for upper & middle layer NBFCs

• Banks & NBFCs taking several steps to mitigate risks involved in gold loans, ensuring proper valuation of gold offered as collateral

• Assessment and Reassessment of gold offered as collateral at regular intervals

• Audits at periodic intervals to ensure gold loans follow regulatory guidelines

• In case customer fails to repay the loan pledged gold can be auctioned with advance notice

• Govt advised banks to review sanctions/disbursement of gold loans from January 1, 2022 To December 31, 2024

• RBI on September 30, 2024 advised supervised entities to review, identify gaps in time bound manner.
