Patiala House Court orders of release of Shabbir Ahmad Shah, a Kashmiri separatist leader, in a money laundering case linked to terror funding. The Court observed that Shah has been in continuous custody since 26 July 2017, and considering that the maximum sentence for the offence under Section 3 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) is 7 years, his ongoing detention exceeds this period.

However, despite the release order in the money laundering case, Shabbir Ahmad Shah will remain in Judicial custody due to ongoing cases registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
