Brazil will restrict entry for some Asian migrants using the country as a stopover to reach the US and Canada.

The new rules, starting Monday, affect those needing visas to stay in Brazil, but exempt countries that already have visa-free agreements.

Earlier, a Federal Police investigation revealed that many migrants stay in Brazil to start their journey north, rather than continuing their flights. Travelers without visas will now have to continue by plane or return home.
