A preliminary post-mortem of the post-graduate trainee doctor found dead at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has revealed that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. One person has been arrested in connection with the case amid protests by junior doctors of the state-run hospital and criticism from the BJP over law and order.

"There was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth, injuries over the face, and a nail. The victim was also bleeding from her private parts. She also has injuries in her belly, left leg, neck, in her right hand, ring finger, and lips," the autopsy report quoted by ANI

The body of the second-year Postgraduate Student of RG Kar Medical College, who was found dead inside the Seminar Hall on the 3rd floor of the emergency building inside the campus under mysterious circumstances, reportedly had injury marks.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that there are signs of strangulation and traces of seminal fluid.
This is a clear case of murder (with the probability of rape). The case should be immediately transferred to the CBI.
Instead the State Govt has formed a 11 member enquiry committee for this incident. Strangely some of the Committee members are Internees.
In my opinion the State Govt is either trying to sweep the matter under the mat so that the negligence on their part doesn't get exposed or they are not at all serious about this matter.

I urge the Student Community to raise their voice against the lackadaisical attitude of the State Govt, especially the Medical Students should protest vehemently. I will extend all the support to the Student fraternity as long as the deceased Student doesn't get justice.

TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee on RG Kar Medical College and Hospital incident -

"This incident is extremely heinous, the state government is taking this matter seriously and within 24 hours an accused has been arrested...There is no identity of a rapist whether he is a policeman, an engineer, a labourer, or anything else. The accused is just a murderer and has no right to stay in society... The politicization of this issue should not be done. I saw many political parties came out on the streets. We should instead bring an ordinance or a bill so that there can be quick justice in 7 days. The protesting BJP leaders should bring a bill to punish rapists in 7 days and as the opposition, the job of TMC and Congress is to support the bill. Why will the trial take 5-6 years? A mother and father lost their daughter. Only they can know the cost of this. It should be the responsibility of political parties, media judiciary to collectively provide justice to the family..."

Firstly, the incident is unfortunate and despicable. It feels like a personal loss to me. Their (doctors') anger and demand is justified. I support it. Police have also accepted their demands,"

"I have directed for the case to be taken to a fast-track court. If needed, the accused will be hanged. But they should be given the strictest punishment"
