After Souvenir Shop well 'Oiled' Network Bust, Many Intelligence Bureau (IB) Officers Suspended for Suspected Links With Gold Smugglers at Chennai Airport.

The suspended officials allegedly took a cut from the smugglers, collected gold from couriers arriving at the airport, smuggled it out to receivers, and also allowed flyers to pass through without proper verification of passports or documents.

A top Intelligence Bureau official said three of the officials had been placed under suspension.

“The number is being under-reported to avoid scrutiny of the immigration section by other agencies such as Directorate of Revenue intelligence (DRI) and Customs,” an official said.
