The institution of marriage has to be protected and preserved in the country and cannot go on the lines of western countries where children being born outside of marriage is not uncommon, the Supreme Court said on Monday while expressing its reservation in permitting unmarried women to take the surrogacy route to become mothers.

The Czech Republic has halted the extradition proceedings for Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national indicted by the US in connection with the thwarted attempt to assassinate Khalistan terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
