Assam Congress MLA Aftabuddin Mollah arrested for derogatory remarks on priests. A case has been registered against him under various sections.

“Wherever there is any rape, the temples priests and namgharias are involved,” the Jaleswar MLA reportedly claimed at a public meeting in Goalpara district.

Mollah made the remarks in response to a statement by All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal who had said last month that Muslims are “number one in Robbery, Dacoity and Rape”.

NIA-Assam Police bust racket of illegal infiltration of Rohingyas, arrest five middlemen from Cachar

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in joint operation with Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday arrested 47 middlemen, who allowed Rohingyas from Bangladesh to enter India, from seven Indian states, including Assam and Tripura.

Out of these 47 middlemen, 25 were arrested from Tripura, 5 from Assam, 9 from Karnataka, 3 each from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and 1 each from Haryana and Telengana, according to the police.

A senior cop from Assam police has confirmed that all five of Assam were arrested from Cachar district. They were arrested on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
