- Not justifying Birbhum killings, but such incidents are more frequent in UP, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

She also said that it was a conspiracy to malign the image of the Trinamool Congress.

- TMC Minister Firhad Hakim: " Big conspiracy at work to defame West Bengal by the Opposition.. we have to find out if murder has anything to do with the fire".

- Minister Partha Chatterjee in assembly: "This massive conspiracy has been hatched to tarnish the image of the State government".

- TMC district president Anubrata Mondal: "The fire may have been triggered by a short circuit, after a TV blast."
