Jaipur Police have filed a complaint against Congress MLA Gopal Meena and a senior police officer for allegedly assaulting a Dalit man, urinating on him and making him lick the legislator's shoes.

The victim, 51, in his police complaint, said when he was working in the field on June 30, a few police officers and their family members beat him and took him to a room.

The man also alleged that the legislator and the cop snatched his mobile phone and threatened him with dire consequences. The victim also claimed that police refused to file a complaint initially and has been receiving constant threats since the complaint was filed.

Ahead of Independence Day, Punjab Police busted a terror module with the arrest of three persons from Tarn Taran.

Police said the accused were associates of Czech Republic-based Gurdev Singh Jaisel, a key operative of Canada-based terrorists Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa, and Satbir Singh, alias Satta.

Both Landa and Satta have been facing several criminal cases, including smuggling of drugs, arms and explosives from across the border using drones. They are wanted in the RPG attacks at the Sarhli police station and Punjab Police’s intelligence headquarters in Mohali. They are also accused of hatching conspiracies for several targeted killings, the police said.

At least 17 Rohingya refugees have been killed, and 30 remain missing after a boat capsized in bad weather in the Bay of Bengal earlier last week.

A Rohingya aid worker in Maungdaw township on the border with Bangladesh said the boat had departed in bad weather, and about 500 others were still hoping to cross to Malaysia.

More than 3,500 Rohingya people in 39 vessels attempted crossings of the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal in 2022, up from 700 the previous year, according to the United Nations refugee agency’s January data.

Nearly one million Rohingya people live in crowded conditions in Bangladesh.

Railway Protection Force said it detained eight foreign nationals at the Agartala railway station while they were about to board a Kolkata-bound train.

Of the eight people, five are Bangladeshi citizens and three are Rohingya who illegally entered India through Sonamura in Sepahijala district in the morning, the RPF said.

The police recovered three fake Aadhaar cards and one PAN card from the group.

The Bangadeshis were identified as Mohammad Abdul Jalil (21), Mohammad Bilal Hussain (20), Abdul Kader (32), Mohammad Kauser (20) and Mohammad Rasel (23) and the Rohingya as Mohammad Husein (23), Rasika Begum (22) and Zahida Begum (19).

Surat Crime Branch arrested a Bangladeshi named Mohammed Rubel Hussain with a fake Aadhaar card.

On investigation, police found that a Revenue officer from UP, Jamshed Alam Khan, had created a birth certificate of Rubel. Jamshed showed that Rubel was from his village.
