Central IAS Association expresses its deep dismay at the decision of the Bihar Government to release the convicts of the brutal killing of Late G Krishnaiah, IAS, former DM of Gopalganj, by a change in classification rules of prisoners.

Former MP Anand Mohan Singh who was convicted in the 1994 murder case of bureaucrat G Krishnaiah.
G Krishnaiah, then Gopalganj District Magistrate, was thrashed, stoned and shot dead by a mob provoked by Anand Mohan Singh.

Facing many other cases of serious crime over the years, Anand Mohan, was elected MP from the Seohar Lok Sabha seat in Bihar in 1996 while still in jail.

In 2007, the Patna High Court sentenced Anand Mohan, son of a freedom fighter, to death for abetting the crime, making him the first Indian politician since Independence to get the death penalty and ending his political career as far as fighting polls went.

The Patna High Court, however, commuted it to life imprisonment; that order was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2012.

After his conviction, Anand Mohan couldn’t contest polls but, despite being in prison, he wielded his prowess and helped his wife, Lovely Anand, in standing as a Congress candidate in the 2010 Bihar election and as a Samajwadi Party nominee in the 2014 general elections.

Earlier this month, the Bihar government had removed the clause which had forbidden the remission of jail term for those convicted of murdering a public servant on duty.

In its notification, the state's law department said that the new rules were for prisoners who have served the actual sentence of 14 years or a sentence of 20 years with remission.

Public sector banks in India are set to launch an e-auction app that will allow users to access information related to properties from the comfort of their homes.

The app will feature up to five lakh properties available for auction, which have been confiscated by banks from borrowers who were unable to repay their loans. The government banks hope to recover these loan amounts by auctioning these properties through the app.
