National Investigation Agency (NIA) yesterday seized a huge cache of cash, gold bars, digital devices (mobile phones, memory cards), drugs and documents, along with other incriminating material during raids and searches at the Chennai residential and business premises of eight suspects in an Indo-Sri Lankan illegal drugs and arms trade racket aimed at revival of LTTE.

Yesterday’s seizure included Rs 68 Lakhs Indian currency and 1000 Singapore Dollars, 9 Gold Biscuits (total of 300 grams) from the shop of Shahid Ali. The NIA has also recovered Rs. 12 Lakhs in Indian currency from the Hotel- Orange Palace in Chennai.

13 people were arrested earlier in December 2022 as part of raids conducted in 21 locations in Tamil Nadu, in the same case; taking the total arrests so far in the case to 14.

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar has also come out strongly in support of the Adani Group and has criticized the narrative around US short-seller Hindenburg's report on the conglomerate.

"Such statements were given by other individuals too earlier and there was a ruckus in parliament for a few days but this time out of proportion importance was given to the issue. It seems this was targeted", Pawar said.

Pawar made it clear he did not agree with Rahul Gandhi's "Adani-Ambani" style of targeting big business houses. It was quite meaningless, he remarked, referring to the "Tata-Birla" narrative of the past.
