After Bengal witnessed violence and unrest on Ram Navami, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday issued a warning to prevent untoward incidents during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on April 6.

“Midnapore never gave birth to any rioters. It is the birthplace of Matangini Hazra. I would like to give responsibility to my Hindu brothers and sisters. There should not be any atrocities against Muslims in the month of Ramadan. My Hindu brothers and sisters will protect them and save them in every village. They are a minority. They should get justice," Mamata said.

Earlier, Mamata Banerjee post the Howrah violence had said - "During Ramzan, Muslims don’t commit ‘injustice’ as this is the time of sacrifice for Allah."

Tension prevailed in Sahibgan, Jharkhand after an Idol of Bhagwan Hanuman was vandalized near Patel Chowk, this morning.

Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has urged external affairs minister S Jaishankar to "cool a little bit" after the latter's remark about the West's "bad habit" of commenting on other countries.
