Rohingya Controversy update:

MoS (Home) Ajay Kumar Mishra reply to Delhi deputy CM Sisodia on Rohingya issue:

Delhi Chief secy chaired mtg on July 29, 2022, in which MHA director & FRRO were invited. They informed that India is not a signatory to the 1951 UN Convention on refugees and 1967 protocol.

MHA and FRRO said all foreign nationals, including Rohingyas, who enter into India without valid travel documents are treated as illegal migrants & dealt as per the law. UNHCR cards or refugee cards are not recognised by Indian law.

Neither MHA official not FRRO proposed that the illegal Rohingya immigrants be shifted to EWS flats built by NDMC in Bakarwala. Neither have they proposed this earlier.

It was learnt through media reports on Aug 17 that Delhi Govt has decided to shift the Rohingya immigrants from Kanchan Kunj, Madanpur Khadar, to Bakarwala. MHA wrote immediately to Delhi Govt asking it not to do so.

FRRO has been requesting Delhi Govt to relocate illegal immigrants from Rampur Sadan to another place. It is also learnt that Delhi Govt’s home deptt & social welfare deptt proposed that EWS flats in Bakarwala be made a detention centre for illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile Delhi chief secy, at a meeting chaired by him on July 29, decided that only Rohingya immigrants will be shifted.

MHA has repeatedly asked Delhi and other state govts to detect and initiate deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants including Rohingyas. It has on August 17 asked Delhi to hold illegal immigrants at Kanchan Kunj facility only.

These facts make it clear that the decision to shift Rohingya immigrants from Kanchan Kunj to Bakarwala was that of Delhi Govt only.

I request that action be initiated against Rohingya illegal immigrants under Foriegners Act, 1946 by Delhi govt’s home department. MHA will extend full cooperation for this purpose…
