The aggressive buying is directly tied to a specialized Reserve Bank of India (RBI) scheme. The initiative successfully pulled in a staggering $136.3 billion in foreign currency between June and Augustโprimarily driven by Non-Resident Indian (NRI) deposits.
This massive capital influx has propelled India's own foreign exchange (FX) reserves to an all-time historic high of $785.7 billion.

UPI charges may attract 18% GST
Merchants may face 18% GST on merchant discount rate (MDR) fees for UPI transactions exceeding โน2,000, experts said.
However, businesses could offset this liability by claiming input tax credit on MDR payments. The proposed levy is estimated to raise โน3,500โ4,000 crore annually in GST revenue, easing its overall net impact.
