Assassination attempt on Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe by a man from behind while he was making a stump speech on a street in Nara on Friday. The Police seized the man who attacked Abe at around 11.30 am.

According to early reports, the assailant suspected of shooting Shinzo Abe is Tetsuya Yamagami (山上徹也), aged 42.

Suspect appears to have an extensive academic background, as a medical school associate professor specialising in physical therapy for dementia patients.

The firearm in question. Appears to be a very rudimentary homemade pipe shotgun utilizing two pipes taped side by side. It features a pistol grip and was cut short for concealability. Based on the amount of smoke emitted after the first shot, it is likely that this "four winds" style shotgun is utilizing homemade black powder.
