🚨The Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay government has appealed to the Supreme Court against a Madras High Court ruling that struck down its 2024 order granting reservation benefits to certain converts to Islam.

Stalin Govt in 2024 had notified that people from Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), Denotified Communities (DNC), and Scheduled Castes (SC) who converted to Islam should be treated as BC (Muslim) for reservation purposes.

However, the High Court declared the order unconstitutional, holding that conversion alone does not entitle a person to backward-class reservation under the Muslim quota.

The matter is now before the Supreme Court.
