NHRC takes cognisance of complaint alleging religious discrimination at a medical college in Dehradun, Uttarakhand by ✝️ Christian Principal, Alfonsa Mathew.

The complaint alleges Hindu students were barred from wearing tilak, bindi and kalawa, while burqa was permitted for Muslim students. It also claims some students were marked absent, had kalawas forcibly removed, and were photographed for disciplinary action.

The NHRC has issued notices to the UGC, Uttarakhand Government, college principal, DM and SSP Dehradun, seeking an Action Taken Report within two weeks. The Commission observed that the allegations prima facie appear to involve violations of human rights.
