India is reportedly exploring the acquisition of up to 40 Russian Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets to strengthen its air force capabilities, according to NDTV citing sources. The number has been mentioned publicly for the first time.

In January, on the sidelines of the Wings India air show in Hyderabad, United Aircraft Corporation chief Vadim Badeha said Moscow and New Delhi are in advanced negotiations regarding the supply and possible production of the Su-57 in India.
