The Union Cabinet has approved the Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SHANTI), allowing private companies to enter India’s nuclear power sector for the first time since 1947. Firms can now build reactors, manufacture equipment, and participate in R&D, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) that can be deployed within 3–5 years.

Caps operator liability at ₹1,500 crore and relaxes supplier rules
